What's wrong with a little romance?

Hình ảnh
This is a picture of the bride and groom at a Wedding I did the flowers for recently. I just love the way she is looking at him.  Recently when a friend came for lunch, she described my decorating style as 'romantic'. I was quite taken aback, I had never thought about it like that, I just thought my style was 'country'.I began to look at my Pinterest pins to see if this was true, and guess what, I am a romantic, even in the style of clothing and flowers, there is a hint of romance running through everything. See for yourself..... All images were from  Pinterest . So whilst my beloved was in Zambia doing charitable work, and I was missing him and feeling all romantic, I decided to paint my kitchen and add a little romance of my own. My floor was already painted in this tile pattern, but was a little worn, so I refreshed it, and my larder cupboard was painted Lavender. The awful tiles that I would love to rip out will have to wait to the next time my husband is away for 2...

Bargain of the month!

So sorry for my absence of late, but things are a little busy here. I wanted to show you my charity shop purchase. I have always been rather envious of my blogging friends in England and America, who seem to pick up the best of things for next to nothing. Well, now it's my turn. I have long been admiring the wonderful collections of white ironstone that you see displayed in Pinterest and other places, but I have never seen any here, until last week that is! I found this wonderful tureen, complete with lid and ladle, in great condition for £5 in my local charity shop. I was cock-a-hoop!! I am afraid that is all for now, but I will post again soon as  I have a lot to show you. Have a wonderful week, love Linda x

I'm All Ablaze in a Heathery Haze

Wonderful hydrangea in my silvered vase. Some scarves and a hair decoration. image from  here . image from  here . deliciously wrapped sugar cubes. image from  here . shades of purple I made these butterflies from wire and antique lace after seeing a similar idea on Pinterest. Ever since I painted my larder cupboard in  the kitchen a marvellous mauve shade, I have been having a fetish about all things lilac, heather, lavender, aubergine, purple etc.etc. I have even been dyeing things 'French Lavender'. my larder cupboard. Sunderland lustre saucer. The Hydrangea from my garden is helping to satisfy my craving as the flowers are so multi-faceted and the colours continue to change after you pick them, I just love them!  I wanted to paint something on the tiles behind my cooker, but what exactly should I paint. I finally decided on painting a quirky little house which I have on an old Sunderland pink lustre cup and saucer, and then added the word HOME. It adds a litt...

Stencilling.....yes or no?

Hình ảnh
A lot of people are a little bit 'sniffy' about stencilling! If you have lived through the 80's and 90's, when everything that moved (or didn't) got stencilled, then I can understand you feeling a little reticent. Also a lot of the stencilling that was done was rather badly done, with leaks and dribbles and smudges. I started painting furniture in the late eighties and didn't have the confidence to hand paint things then, so I used stencils, first bought ones, then as I gained confidence,I cut my own. Eventually I learned how to paint directly on to the wall, but that took time. I have to say though, that I still have a soft spot for stencilling. Recently, I thought that I would check 'The Stencil Library's' website, as I hadn't been on it in quite a number of years. I knew that they were still going strong because of the magazine coverage. I was thrilled by what I found, as they have really moved the whole thing on with both modern and vintage d...

Christmas Decorating

Kitchen with a traditional red colour scheme. The Danish pixie on the wall is an advent calendar. A few years ago I bought this cream tree, which I find very difficult to decorate, when colour is added it doesn't look right and when it is all white or cream it can look drab. I saw this idea to make it into a snowman on Pinterest and thought it would be fun. The mantle in the living room will be decorated with a swag of greenery and some flowers and candles when it gets nearer to Christmas. I bought this lovely little guardian angel bear from Flossie Limejuice on Etsy. I painted a chalkboard in the hall and added some childlike merchants houses and snow, and I must say I really love it. The Christmas decorating has begun in our home. I have to admit it is a bit of a palaver, getting everything out of the garage, changing my mind  about which tree to have where and how to decorate them, and I absolutely hate having to put it all away again. Once they are up I do love them so. I do lo...
