I'm All Ablaze in a Heathery Haze

I made these butterflies from wire and antique lace after seeing a similar idea on Pinterest.

Ever since I painted my larder cupboard in  the kitchen a marvellous mauve shade, I have been having a fetish about all things lilac, heather, lavender, aubergine,purple etc.etc. I have even been dyeing things 'French Lavender'.

The Hydrangea from my garden is helping to satisfy my craving as the flowers are so multi-faceted and the colours continue to change after you pick them, I just love them!

 I wanted to paint something on the tiles behind my cooker, but what exactly should I paint. I finally decided on painting a quirky little house which I have on an old Sunderland pink lustre cup and saucer, and then added the word HOME. It adds a little bit of humour and some warmth for winter.

Here is a picture of the above hydrangea when it dried out, the colours changed completely!

UCR Botanic Gardens Fall Market & Plant Sale

Fall is a very popular time of the year for outdoor markets and fairs of all kinds. And when garden opportunities arise we always try to participate in the local favorites. Autumn also happens to be the best time to plant perennials, shrubs, bulbs and even wildflower seeds. Did you know that plants established in the fall and winter grow faster in the spring and require less water when summer comes? This month we ventured out to the UCR Botanic Gardens nestled in the foothills of the Box Springs Mountains on the east side of the University of California, Riverside Campus for their 35th annual fall market and plant sale. This spectacular event features an exciting collection of plants with many varieties including drought tolerant California Native plants as well as plants that attract hummingbirds or butterflies and plants that are suitable for vegetable or flowers gardens. International Protea Association: Explore the New Facebook Page & Instagram

Absolutely Love Protea? If so, then you need to check out the new International Protea Association (IPA) Facebook Page and Instagram . In September I traveled to South Africa to attend the IPA Conference and Pre-Conference Tour. During my visit I had the opportunity to tour several protea farms and meet some amazing farmers from across the globe. Feeling extremely inspired by my new friends and hating the idea that it would be at least two years before we’d meet again, I wanted to find a way to stay in touch. After reaching out to the IPA members in attendance, creating an International Protea Association Facebook Page and Instagram was the solution. It’s our hope that these platforms would provide us all a way to stay connected between conferences. Hebron Community Projects

Upon moving from Cape Town to Citrusdal, South Africa, Neil and Olivia Hall were excited about the prospects of having the opportunity to live and work in the countryside. Although this small town is blessed with picturesque mountains and a vibrant community, the effects of alcoholism, child abuse, HIV Aids, underage pregnancy, poverty and more were evident and right on everyone’s door step! As the years went by, the Hall’s realized the problems and challenges that the community faced, particularly the youth, were only getting worse. This resulted in the birth of Hebron Community Projects (HCP) in 2008, a registered non-profit organization that aims to be a catalyst for positive change in Citrusdal and communities alike. HCP has a particular focus on youth by providing programs and facilities that will allow for qualified personnel to counsel, teach, train, and provide a safe haven for youth at risk.
