In September I traveled to South Africa to attend the IPA Conference and Pre-Conference Tour. During my visit I had the opportunity to tour several protea farms and meet some amazing farmers from across the globe. Feeling extremely inspired by my new friends and hating the idea that it would be at least two years before we’d meet again, I wanted to find a way to stay in touch. After reaching out to the IPA members in attendance, creating an International Protea Association Facebook Page and Instagram was the solution. Helen Davis has always loved flowers and plants. As a young mother in Yolo County, California, she discovered the art of floral design at the local fair. Feeling inspired, she decided to try her hand at designing and began participating in the fair’s annual design competition. A tradition she has held on to for the last 50 of her 89 years. Helen further developed her design skill while working for a good friend who needed help with her home-based floral business. Over the years, she has shared her passion for flowers with her children and grandchildren… spending time training and encouraging each of them. I was attempting to write this post when a little bird who had been flying about outside my kitchen window, landed on top of a birdhouse on the windowsill and started pecking the window with his beak, as if to say 'hey you, get out here, it's a lovely day and you've got some gardening to do!' I managed to catch a snap or two of him, but apologies for the quality. Anyway, after I was so charmingly interrupted... A couple of days ago, after a trip to the flower wholesalers, I was having a coffee in a well known coffee merchants, minding my own business (well sort of),when I overheard an interesting conversation. I noticed two young men when I arrived with a cute little baby girl. They were having a business meeting 9.00 a.m. Saturday morning. Image from  here . Hello my dear readers and followers, so sorry for my long absence. I have been a busy bee, baking for 50th birthday celebrations and joint boy/girl christenings. I have been TRYING to set up a website and facebook  page, and wrestle with a new camera and computer.My head is about to explode with knowledge and learning! I have been forming a friendship with the owner of a local giftshop and tea room and together we have been brainstorming and planning new and exciting things, that will add something to our town..I can't really say too much at the moment, but I will most certainly keep you all posted. I have also been offered some space in her shop , to sell plants and flowers and handmade goodies.As you can imagine, I am giddy as a goose, trying to stay calm and focused. I have never been one for routine, but realise that I am not being fair to you,my loyal readers, by posting spasmodically, so I plan to post every Monday from now on. Thank you for continuing...
