The Grateful Table

Hình ảnh
It’s always a treat to attend ‘Farm to Fork – Field to Vase' events, but this week, in a vineyard right on the 50-yard line between Napa and Sonoma, CA, the human spirit came together in a very unique and special way. Over 500 people gathered in the Napa-Sonoma Wine Country community to honor and support people affected by what was the largest wild fire in the history of California. Farmers, chefs, floral designers, and tourism officials, were in attendance and most importantly, the first responders, the fire fighters, police force, EMTs, even dispatchers who received 1000’s of phone calls for help amidst the October blazes. Visit California, Outstanding in the Field and destination partners Visit Napa Valley, Sonoma County Tourism, and Visit Mendocino County sponsored what was called ‘The Grateful Table’ . In many ways this event marked the beginning of the recovery in the wine country with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards fire recovery efforts. It was the perfect fal...

International Protea Association: Explore the New Facebook Page & Instagram

Hình ảnh
Absolutely Love Protea? If so, then you need to check out the new International Protea Association (IPA) Facebook Page and Instagram . In September I traveled to South Africa to attend the IPA Conference and Pre-Conference Tour. During my visit I had the opportunity to tour several protea farms and meet some amazing farmers from across the globe. Feeling extremely inspired by my new friends and hating the idea that it would be at least two years before we’d meet again, I wanted to find a way to stay in touch. After reaching out to the IPA members in attendance, creating an International Protea Association Facebook Page and Instagram was the solution. It’s our hope that these platforms would provide us all a way to stay connected between conferences. Finally, after two months, the Facebook Page and Instagram are up and running... and we couldn't be more excited. Since 1984, the IPA has served as a link in the Value Chain of global commercial protea production. It offers r...

CPA Event: IPA 2017 Update

Hình ảnh
This month Resendiz Brothers had the pleasure to host the California Protea Association’s (CPA) Fall meeting. The topic was – the International Protea Association (IPA) 2017 Conference and Pre-Conference Tour . It was our opportunity to shared what we learned while attending the conference in South Africa with the farmers here in California. The meeting started with the Area Report that Mel presented during the IPA Grower’s Day covering California’s current status of protea production and future outlooks. A second slide-show followed with pictures taken during the IPA Conference and Tour, highlighting the farms that so graciously welcomed us. However, the evening wasn't just about IPA and South Africa, it was also about gathering together and catching up on what’s happening on the farms here in California. We prepared the typical ‘Resendiz Feast’ of Carne Asada, of course and dined outside on the patio. It was a delightful evening filled with good conversation, scrumptious food...

American Grown Flowers Garnish First Lady's Luncheon

Hình ảnh
This year’s First Lady’s Luncheon was the latest inspiration for designing with all American Grown Flowers. Farms from across the country shipped over 18,000 stems of gorgeous American Grown Flowers to a team of over 20 volunteer floral designers led by Kelly Shore of Petals by the Shore , Christy Hulsey of The Colonial House of Flowers and Margaret Lloyd of Margret Joan Florals . The Certified American Grown program for the second year in a row sponsored this iconic Washington, D.C., event. An annual bipartisan tradition hosted by the Congressional Club since 1912 to honor the first lady of the United States, the luncheon was attended by a record 2,100 people, including Congressional spouses, associates of members of Congress and cabinet members. During this year’s luncheon, I had the pleasure to meet and speak with the first lady and to encourage the White House to adopt an all American Grown Flower policy. My request was reiterated by the Congressional Club’s Luncheon Chair who ...

CWA Wreath Making Workshop

Hình ảnh
Our kind of welcome to the Holiday Season, as the California Women for Agriculture – San Diego Chapter (CWA) brought good cheer to the farm on a recent Saturday. Clear skies and perfectly crisp temperatures greeted guests as they enjoyed a wreath making workshop, along with a tour of the nursery, a peak in the packing house and some tasty Mexican snacks. Our favorite flower farmer demonstrated the art of wreath making, while participants merrily contemplated what flowers and foliage they would select for their special wreath. Once everyone gathered their favorite ingredients they created twelve small bouquets that were arranged and placed on a wreath frame and finally, clamped into place. The workshop concluded with a viewing of 20 unique and festive wreaths, complete with holiday tunes and special greetings from several of our farm friends. Guests departed with a wreath in one arm and protea bouquet in the other.
