The Society of American Florists’ (SAF) Outstanding Varieties Competition has always been a great way for us to help increase visibility and demand for the flowers and foliage we grow, especially for the ‘newer’ varieties. During this year’s annual SAF convention in Maui, wholesalers, florists, designers and farmers awarded Serrruia ‘Best in Class’ in the Other Cut Flower category, and we were Thrilled! Floral Management Magazine’s November issue states, “Attendees and judges alike had one thing – weddings- on the brain when discussing the prize-winning protea. “I love this one for its texture, white and pale pink color and vase life,” which can extend up to four weeks, said James McArdle of McArdles’s Florist and Garden Center in Greenwich, Connecticut. “I see it being a great filler in a low and lush arrangement.” Mitchell said ‘Blushing’ would be the ideal flower to show a bride who wants to blend an “edgy and cool” aesthetic with soft, feminine colors. The Reception of Kara and Niall's Wedding was held  here  , a beautiful Georgian Estate in Limavady, in a pretty white marquee in the old walled garden. The entrance to the walled garden flanked by roses. Although the owners of this beautiful place still live here, a party of 16 fortunate guests can stay in the main house. I sadly didn't get to see inside, but if you click on the link above you will see how special it is. The mother of the bride told me that the Housekeeper really took special care of them, and they felt really pampered. (So much more personal than a hotel). The marquee is all white and looks lovely even before the finishing touches. Kara had a 'World' theme for the tables, with a lovely big map at the entrance to show guests where they are to be seated. She had a sweet table for children and the young at heart with cute little bags as keepsakes. Time has just flown in for me this summer, as I have been a busy little bee. Things are picking up for me at the shop and so there has been a lot of making, painting and planting going on. vintage style bunting. hand painted scrubbing brushes. slightly mad looking rabbit cake to make, for a certain someone's 11th birthday. hanging baskets to plant. furniture to paint. cotton bunting in various colourways. Bespoke bunting for a wedding. The 'Tweed' family rabbits. Decoupaged nest of tables. A One Direction movie to watch, and photographs to be taken with cardboard cutouts, of Lois's favourite boys. So you see,a busy bee. I do hope I will be forgiven for not posting? Then on Saturday, there was 'the wedding', which has been taking up a lot of my time too.
