Warm Valentine Wishes

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's day tomorrow, whether you have that special someone in your life or not. My husband has no time for Valentine's Day and dismisses it as a day to be 'ripped off', but I disagree, I think of it as a day to celebrate those you love and often take for granted. You can do some little kindness, make something, pick some flowers, bake a cake, whatever, it need not cost any money, it is after all  THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS.
I will make a little card for my daughter and give her some of her favourite chocolate, to let her know she is my sweetheart. My mum always gave her children Valentine's, we knew they were from her, she didn't try to pretend they were from someone else, and though we used to laugh and think she was silly, they got me through many's a sad and lonely time.
January, has been a whirl of activity for me, the year has really hit the ground running. The owner of the shop where I have a little booth, decided to change things around and paint and refresh everything, so we have both been busy with that. It worked out very well for me, as my area has been moved from the back of the shop  to the front, and I also have some window space.
My daughter will be moving from Primary school to High School in September, so we have been doing all the school open days. She failed her exam which means she will not be able to go to the school we hoped she would be going to, so there has been a lot of angst and worry and soul searching. We are now decided on a school and are all happy with the choice. HOORAH!
I have been painting some Nursery furniture and a mural for my niece as there is soon to be a new baby in the family, so it really is all happening. I haven't read any blogs for ages I am ashamed to say, but hopefully I will get on to it now as things have calmed down a little.

A touch of red, does the trick!

This time last year my kitchen was a deep cream colour with some of the cupboards in a dark pink. I loved it, it was warm and cosy. When the Spring came I found it too dark, I wanted light, and so I painted the cupboards white, and the walls an off-white. It was such a contrast, and so bright, i loved it too. However, as the sun goes lower in the sky and the weather has been very wet and windy, I found that I wasn't liking it quite so much, it seemed dull and cold. My daughter and I had been making some papier mache toadstools, and this was my inspiration......of course.....a touch of red was what was needed. Those clever Scandinavians know that, their mostly white interiors do almost always have a little red somewhere, and it really does draw the eye in. So I set to and made a little corner where I could display red things. My daughter is so excited, she thinks Christmas has come early! We have a little 'toadstool' mania in this house at the moment. The Circle of Life

Image from Tumblr . Wreaths, are one of my most favourite types of flower arrangements. They are so uplifting when you see them on someone's front door. I have never been to America on Thanksgiving weekend, but I know I would just love to see all those beautiful door wreaths. This is my own image, I apolagize for the quality! In Ireland, they tend to be only used at Christmas time, and usually they are either artificial or made from holly with a plastic decoration here and there. I would love to see people be a little more adventurous, and make their own. Depending on what you use, and the weather, they can sometimes last for quite a long time. I have known mine , made with fir, eucalyptus and roses last for a month, with perhaps only the odd rose needing replaced.   I would love to see people have a different one for each different season. I do try to do that in my own home. When I drive or walk towards my home, it really gives me a little lift to see it there. I also love...

Wreath making.

I have been wreath making. I love wreaths, for every occasion and season. They signify the circle of life. I love circles, spots, curving lines, but I know people who love straight lines, symmetry, nothing flowery or fussy. I find it fascinating, also I find fascinating the thing about how you apply your lipstick. Mine is always rounded because I turn it round as I apply. My mum's was always pointy as she applied it the same way every time. What about you? How does your lipstick look, and do you love straight lines or curves? It must say something about us, but I am not sure what. I have been working on bringing in a little Christmas business by having wreaths in a few local shops . I have finally decided my theme for the Wedding Fair in February. I am going for the Classic Country theme, but with a period feel, think 'Tussie Mussie' bouquets and Empire line dresses, ribbons and roses.
